Kid friendly indoor plants

November 05, 2020

Most young children have trouble with the concept of looking without touching. Although there are many house plants that are considered safe, we've put together a list of non toxic plants. We've focused on varieties that are on trend and are super easy to grow, in order to keep the entire family happy 🤩👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum)

This plant is great for many reasons. The spider plant is one of the top recommendations for all homes. It is an excellent choice for air purification. It is also easy to grow, even in low light conditions. It doesn’t need a lot of love, so if you forget it for a few days, it will forgive you.

Parlour Palm (Chamaedorea elegans)

This popular plant is non-toxic for both your kids and your pets. This slow growing palm is perfect for indoors, as it loves low-light and doesn’t need to much watering.

Rubber Plant (Ficus elastica)

This one is safe for your kids, but toxic for your pets. Super popular with interior designers for it’s lush waxy leaves, Rubber Plants can be found in many modern homes. It loves sunlight and needs a bit of attention, but look after it well and you will be rewarded.

Snake Plant (Sansevieria trifasciata)

This is another hardy plant which is safe for kids, but toxic for pets, so be careful of placement. This plant is perfect for those whose thumb is far from green. You can basically forget it exists and it will still thrive. Known for it's air purifying qualities, it’s becoming super popular in recent times.

Weeping Fig (Ficus Benjamina)

The weeping fig is one of the most popular miniature trees to take care of at home. You can control how much it grows, so it’s one of the suitable trees for bonsai. You can put it on a window sill or on the floor. It has small pointy (but not prickly) leaves which can be either all green of green with white edges and it can often be seen in offices.

What to do if your child eats a poisonous plant?

If your child puts a plant in their mouth, do not taste the plant yourself to check if it is poisonous. If your child is choking or unconscious or has trouble breathing or swallowing, call an Ambulance immediately.
