Philodendron Silversword (Philodendron hastatum)

Discover the unique charm of the Philodendron Silversword, also known as Philodendron hastatum. Native to the tropical rainforests of South America, this stunning climber naturally uses its aerial roots to scale large tree trunks towards filtered canopy light in its natural environment. It stands out with a silver-blue toned foliage shaped like distinct arrowheads.

Features:

A natural climbing plant that loves to climb up a support system. Providing a totem pole will encourage the plant to produce larger, more dramatic mature foliage.

Features glossy silver-blue leaves that taper at the end creating a sword-like appearance. 

It prefers bright indirect sunlight, as lower sunlight will result in extended internodes and a leggy plant. 

Plant Care Tips:

Allow your Philodendron Silversword to grow up a support system such as a totem pole or trellis to ensure adequate support of the plant and bigger leaves.

Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry out between watering, keeping the soil moist. Avoid keeping the soil soggy as this can lead to root rot. 

As a tropical native, this plant thrives with higher humidity levels. Boost humidity by clustering your indoor plants together; putting a tray with pebbles and water near your plant or running a humidifier. 

Feed with diluted houseplant fertiliser during the growing season and reduce fertilising during the winter months.
